Committed to the Cause

Ann King
Ann is a certified dog trainer, and has her own training and pet care business. She has worked extensively with many local shelters and is currently one of the trainers with NYCACC's Community Outreach Program. Ann loves volunteering with the dogs whether it is at the shelter or with her own dogs doing therapy work. She has five rescue dogs, as well as a pet rat, and her sofa is home to countless other critters who need a soft way station on the road of life.

Doug Tappan
Doug, a founding member of Best Bullies, dedicated countless hours as a volunteer at the Yonkers shelter, where he trained and exercised the dogs, providing them with the stimulation they needed.
As a husband, busy father, and airplane pilot, Doug's commitment and expertise have been invaluable launching Best Bullies. We are truly grateful for his support and passion for helping these dogs thrive.

Jo Ann Beard
Jo Ann is a writer and animal advocate who teaches creative writing at Sarah Lawrence College. Her dog, Beatrice, is a Best Bullies rescue.

Ritsa Galitsis
CPDT, VSPT
Meet Ritsa, a dedicated trainer with over 18 years of experience in working with
rescues and shelters. As the founder of Happy Hounds and the behavior and training manager at Animal Farm Foundation in Amenia, she is passionate about helping dogs find their forever homes. Ritsa shares her life with her beloved "unicorn dog" Bill and often fosters another adoptable from Animal Farm. With her expertise, she strives to make a positive impact in the lives of both dogs and their future families.

Laura Owen
Meet Laura, a dedicated educator from Queens with 26 years of teaching experience. Her passion for animals was nurtured by her mother, a doger and poodle breeder. Laura has spent years volunteering at the Mount Vernon Animal Shelter, showcasing her commitment to animal welfare. We proud to have her on our team!

Monique Pujol Taylor
Monique, a native of NYC, grew up surrounded by the hustle and bustle her parents' successful French restaurant. relocating to Westchester, she found her passion for helping animals by volunteering at the Mount Vernon Animal Shelter, where she's a familiar face. At home, Monique often shares her space with at least one of her two beloved Best Bullies dogs, bringing joy and companionship to her everyday life.

Bernadette Griffin
Bernadette, a Bronx native, dedicated 30 years to her career in finance before recently stepping into retirement. With her newfound time, she joined our board and been an incredible asset to our cause. Beyond her professional achievements, Bernadette has shown her passion for animals by fostering numerous dogs for Best Bullies. Her most recent foster, Elise, has found a forever home with her, proving that love and commitment can truly change lives.
